PREAMBLE
The world to-day, is under the complete sway of Materialism. The dominance of materialism, despite its scientific and technological advancement has contributed practically nothing toward moral, social and spiritual development of mankind. Humanity is, therefore, beset with problems of the gravest nature and seems to be bereft of the very essence of life - peace of mind and soul. Moreover, the crisis thus created has brought in its wake multinatured, challenges.
To meet fully the challenge of the hostile ideological forces which are attacking Islam in all parts of the world, to fulfil truely the religious needs of the scattered and religiously-ill-equipped Muslim minorities of the world, and to reach out successfully the .Message of Islam to all the ideological groups of mankind is the crying need of Islam today.
This need cannot, however, be fulfilled without producing Vlema of a comprehensive type.
The comprehensive 'Mema cannot be produced without reforming the system of Islamic theological education currently in vogue in the Muslim world.
The required reformed system should be based on the following three factors:
(i) Education in theological subjects should be on such a level as to create insight among the recipients.
(ii) Side by side with theological knowledge, a proper knowledge of the modern philosophical and social thought, critically evaluated in the light of Islam, should also be imparted to enable the ‘Ulema to know at first hand the problems, the doubts and the difficulties which confront the modern mind, and thereby to reach out successfully the Message of Islam to modern humanity.
(iii) Education and training in Islamic personality-culture and social service.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR (August to July)
ALEEMIYAH INTERMEDIATE ARTS COLLEGE
HISTORY:
The nucleus of the University was formed when His Eminence Dr. Muhammad Fazlur Rahman al-Ansari al-Qadri, the Founder President of the World Federation of Islamic Missions had introduced in 1958 short courses on Islam in a modest flat at Sadder, Karachi, through the English medium for the students who started coming to him to enlighten themselves through Islamic Learning from Africa, United Kingdom, Canada and the West Indies. The courses continued to progress until the University assumed a formal shape at the campus of the Islamic Centre in July 1964 with students from Pakistan, East Africa, South Africa, West Indies and South America forming the first batch for pursuing the full-fledged courses in Islamic Theology and Modern Thought.
The University owing to its unique educational programme and dynamic approach to serve the cause of Islam and to reach out its message all over the world established its reputation in the different parts of the world. In addition to Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, students with a zeal to serve as missionaries of Islam, began to be attracted from different countries to undergo the training and education in Islamic Learning in the University.
The countries from where the students are generally drawn are:
It is a matter of pride that so far substantial number of students have graduated and obtained the degree of Ijaza-tul-Aliyah from this University and many of them are working voluntarily and effectively as Islamic missionaries and social workers in different parts of the world.
Besides the degrees conferred by the University in Islamic Learning, the students are given all possible facilities to obtain the modern degrees (B.A., M.A., or Ph.D.) according to their interests and abilities from the University of Karachi.
The present campus of the University, at the Islamic Centre was completed in 1998. It is a four story building in which three floors are reserved for academic purpose and the top one for residential purpose. There are two separate blocks of Hostel wherein about 60 students can be accommodated conveniently. Thus the University is functioning with ample facilities of teaching, lodging and boarding, of course for a restricted number of students.
LOCATION AND CLIMATE:
The University is situated in one of the most modern and the healthiest localities of the cosmopolitan city of Karachi, which has been the Federal Capital of Pakistan for a number of years and is the largest city in the country, with all types of facilities available. Being on the international highway both by air and by sea, it is easily accessible to people from all parts of the world. It has many academic institutions and learned societies, both theological and modem, including various full-fledged universities.
Situated a few degrees above the tropic of cancer, the climate is tropical. Being a sea-side town, however, both its summer and winter are mild; and the hinter-land being a sandy plain, rainfall is scanty. The summer'season covers a period of seven months, from A . pril to October, and is for most of the time mildly hot and humid. The winter season runs from November to March with few spells of the Quetta breeze when the climate becomes really cold and dry, remaining otherwise pleasantly cool.
OBJECTIVES:
(1) To prepare fully qualified Ulema highly equipped with Islamic Learning and well abreast of Modern Thought to be able to work as devoted missionaries of Islam both in Pakistan and abroad.
(2)To train and guide the missionaries in the cognition and understanding of the world problems with an insight into the prevailing doubts and difficulties of the modem mind and thereby enabling them to reach out successfully and effectively the Message of Islam to the Modem World.
(3)To educate and train the prospective missionaries of Islam in Islamic personality - culture and selfless social service.
(4) To make them well versed in the Art of Public speaking through off-the-campus training and internship programmes in the University.
Official Title and Affiliation
The University carries the name of His Eminence Maulana Muhammed Abdul Aleem Siddiqui Al-Qaderi (R.A.) in recognition of his distinguished services to Islam and to humanity in general.
MEDIA OF INSTRUCTIONS:
Arabic and English Languages are employed as media of instruction in the University. Subjects of Islamic Learning are taught through the medium of Arabic Language, whereas, Modern subjects are taught in English.
DISTINCTIVE FEATURES:
The establishment of Aleemiyah Islamic Missionary University forms the first attempt in the direction of the realisation. of the abovementioned educational objectives and thereby the fulfilment of the most urgent need of Islam in the religious field. This forms the first distinctive feature of the University.
The other distinctive feature is the Adoption of English, side by side with Arabic, as the medium of instruction in the University.
This, again, has formed an urgent need since some time, because there are a good number of Muslim communities like those of U.K., U.S.A., Canada, West Indies, British Guiana, Fiji, Australia,- Philippines, Mauritius and certain territories of Africa whose mother-tongue, or at least the official language, is English. There is a dire need of properly qualified English-speaking Ulema among such communities, and the only way to meet this need is to train selected educated young men of those communities as Ulema with English as one of the media of instruction, which would facilitate the acquisition by them of theological education and would at the same time equip them directly to preach Islam through English.
Inside Pakistan itself, there is a great need for English-speaking Ulema, who may be conversant with Modern Thought,- to function efficiently as spiritual guides for the modern-educated section of the community.
CREED:
The Creed of the University is that of Ahle-Sunnah wal Jama'ah.
PROPOSED PLAN OF EDUCATION:
With a view to achieving the aims and objectives of the University, the founder of the great Educational Project, Dr. Fazl-ur Rahman Ansari (R.A.) in his plan of Education proposed a twelve year-course of studies constituting the GRADUATION and POSTGRADUATION Courses. The plan, in fact, basically intends to provide a comprehensive education at the University both in Islamic Learning and Modern Thought. At the same time the plan makes provision for the willing students of the Institute to obtain higher degrees in modern education from the University of Karachi, as a private or external candidate.
The following are the Courses of the Proposed Plan of Education at the University.
A. The Graduation Course: 5 years
Basic Level One year
Secondary Level Two year
Graduation Level After the Basic Level two years
B. Post-Graduation Course:
Master's Level Two years
M.Phi Two years
Doctoral Level Three years after the Master's Level
Of the courses available at the Institute, the Graduation Course is the only standard course. But, as all those who may so desire to study at the Institute, especially persons of advanced age or those belonging to foreign countries, may not be in a position to stay for full 5 years to complete the full course of education, but; instead of that, would like to undergo only one year or three year courses, the Graduation Course has been divided into three stages namely the Basic, the Secondary and the Graduation.
A. THE GRADUATION COURSE
(a) Basic Level
The Basic stage is consist of one year course. It renders the student eligible for receiving the Shahadat (certificate) in Basic Islamic Learning and enables him to serve as a basic Islamic worker and as a teacher of Islamics at the Primary level.
Language Class:
In view of the above, Aleemiyah Islamic Missionary University has introduced Language Class for developing language proficiency in Arabic and English among the candidates desiring to take admission in the University. These classes, though not an integral part of the University's Educational Programme, yet they are held in the buildings of the University.
Courses in the Language class have been planned in a scientific manner and the Islamic-subjects including the Arabic and English Languages are* taught by the most modern methods.
Particularly, languages are taught to the new entrants in such a manner and on such a. level that when they go to the first year class of the University they are in a position to pursue the courses successfully and be able to speak and understand both Arabic & English lectures without any language problem.
The main purpose of the Language Class is to provide remedial teaching to the students both in the Arabic and English languages. But, with a view to providing the students a sound schooling and helping them to adjust themselves in the University educational environment, the students are required to undergo the following courses:
(1) Hifzul Quran, (Selected Sura's)
(2) Tajweed
(3) Fundamentals of Islam and Seerat
(4) Islamic Etiquette, RITES and Rituals
(5) Arabic Language:
(6) Nahv, Surf and InshEi
(7) English Language
(8) Grammar, Composition and Correct Usage
(9) Elementary Urdu (for Foreign Students)
(10) Art of Public Speaking
Students admitted to (Arabic and English) the Language Class are given regular practical instruction in the fundamentals of Islam and Islamic Etiquette, Rights and Rituals.
(b) Secondary Level
The Secondary stage is covered by pursuing Courses upto the end of the 2nd year, which requires a student to stay two years more after the completion of the Basic stage. It renders him eligible for the Certificate of Secondary Islamic Learning and enables him to serve Islam as Khateeb at the mosque, Marriage Officer, Teacher of Islamics at the Sec-
ondary Level and as an Islamic Missionary of average status.
(c) Graduatiori Level
The graduation stage is covered by pursuing Courses upto the end of the 4th year, which requires a student to stay two more years after the completion of the Secondary stage - or, in other words, to complete the full five years education. It renders the student, eligible for receiving the Degree of Graduation in Islamic Learning and enables those who graduate in all the subjects to function as full fledged theologians and Missionaries and as Teachers of Islamics, at the post-secondary level.
B. THE POST-GRADUATION COURSE:
Students who complete their Graduate Courses meritoriously and are found to possess a distinguished intellectual calibre and an exceptional aptitude for Islamic leadership shall be admitted to post-graduate studies for obtaining the Degree of Master's level in Islamic Learning which shall cover a period of two years, and after that, the Degree of Research at the M.Phil Level which shall cover a period of two years and the Degree of Research at the Doctoral Level
which shall cover a period of three years; as also for obtaining, if desirable, the degrees of M.A. and Ph.D. in
such subjects as harmonise with their mission. Because still degrees of A.I.M.U. is not recognized by Government of Pakistan and for recognition the administration of A.I.M.U. is working hard and we hope that in near future University will be approved by Government of Pakistan. The post-Graduate studies are thus expected to cover a total period of seven years.
C. QUALIFYING IN MODERN EDUCATION:
Students who possess the Matriculation Certificate or '0' Level equivalent to Pakistani Secondary School Leaving Certificate may note that the subjects in the first four years of the University Graduation Course have been so planned that a serious student possessing the abovementioned qualification can, without attending any other institution and by offering the subjects taught at the University pass the modern education examination Intermediate, B.A. as an external or private candidate, at the end of the fourth year and M.A. at the end of sixth year. That is, he can pass the Higher Secondary or Intermediate at the end of the second year, and B.A. at the end of fourth year and M.A. at the end of the sixth year. Thus a student will be well equipped with modem education as well, which will enable him to acquire statues and livelihood in society.
The financial and other responsibilities in respect of preparing for and passing the abovementioned examination, will, however, rest entirely on the student himself.
In conclusion, it may be emphasised that:
(a) Those who pursue their education only upto the Graduate level shall acquire such proficiency in Islamic Theology as is required at the other Islamic theological institutions. Over and above that, however, they shall obtain orientation in Modern Thought and, if need be, the B.A., or M.A., degree from the University of Karachi as stated in the foregoing. With such comprehensive education they will be ideally placed in life and equipped as theologians and Missionaries.
(b) As regards the production of high class theologians and exponents of Islam, the university holds to the belief that it can be truely possible only when the doctored level Courses planned by the university are also pursued and fully completed.
PRESENT PLAN OF EDUCATION:
When the University was founded and the Plan of Education (as described earlier) was prepared for the education to be imparted at the University, no positive steps could be taken for the true and complete implementation of the plan. The non-availability of adequately qualified staff, dearth of physical facilities and paucity of funds impeded the full realization of the scheme in its original form.
The University, however, continued its academic programme providing Graduation and Master's Level course (a full-fledged seven years-Course of studies thereby rendering student at the end of the 7th year) eligible for the award of Degree of Master's. Thus a student having successfully undergone the above courses of studies becomes well-versed in Islamic Learning as-well as in Modern Thought. He becomes quite a capable heologian, a Missionary and at the same time an adequately qualified Teacher of Islamic Learning for the Intermediate (post-secondary) and higher levels of education.
The Graduation Level Course
The Graduation-level courses of studies constitute two different sets of subjects.
(a) Subjects pertaining to Arabic Language and Islamic Theology.
(b) Subjects meant to introduce the students to Modern Thought.
Objectives of the Courses
The purpose of the Graduation-level course is:
(a) to impart knowledge of Islamic Theology at the same level
at which it is imparted for purposes of Graduation and Master at the other Islamic Theological institutions.
(b) to build up the foundation of the knowledge of students in Modern Thought whereby they may be able to equip themselves progressively for preaching Islam successfully to modern humanity.
(c) The subjects relating to Modern Thought have been planned and placed in the Syllabus in such a manner that those who may join the Institute as possessors of qualification equivalent to Pakistani Matriculation only and may desire to obtain the B.A. and M.A. degrees awarded by the Karachi University, can, without attending any other institution, do so by choosing basically the subjects taught at the University.
The aforesaid (b) and (c) are the unique features of education at the University. Also unique is the feature that the Institute offers two media of University namely, Arabic and English. According to the normal scheme of the University, Arabic language is the medium for teaching Arabic Language and theological subjects, while English language is the medium for teaching the subjects relating to Modern Thought. Of course, among the professors who teach Arabic language and theological subjects there are those who can teach and explain through the English medium also.

APPEAL:
The prevailing conditions under which we have embarked upon such a noble and grand project as epitomized in Aleemiyah Islamic Missionary University are definitely not encouraging. Apart from our own meagre resources, the general apathy and indifference of Muslims towards any constructive innovation as envisaged in Aleemiyah Islamic Missionary University, is very regrettable. Moreover the anti-Islamic forces working on our bodypolitic have rendered the situation all the more grievous and exasperating.
Conscious of the hardships and difficulties that lie in our way, we have ventured to take up the great job, because we are convinced that it is unavoidable and most needed, as it forms the basic step towards the revival of the glory of Islam as a worldforce and to the restoration of the dignity of the Ulema in Muslim Society. In fact, the adoption of a new comprehensive system of Islamic education aimed at providing a dynamic and genuine Islamic Leadership and creating a new system of Theological Dialectical Philosophy to cope with the intellectual challenge of the modern age, is an obligatory task before the Muslim World. Any further delay in this regard would, in our opinion, result in incalculable damage to the cause of Islam.
We know and understand that it is not easy to realize singlehandedly the project of Islamic Education in a manner which is at once befitting and comprehensive. Consequently we are in dire need of the earnest support and cooperation of our eminent scholars, distinguished philanthropists and of our Muslim brethren in general.
We earnestly appeal to every Muslim in the World in the name of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, and, in His own words as laid down in the Holy Qur'an:
"0 Ye who believe! Be ye helpers of (the cause of) Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala), (L X 1: 14)
Our University has been named as Jame'ah in its original Arabic connotation. The word Jame'ah, in fact, denotes an amalgam oi theological as well as non-theological education comprising Modem Thought. We do wish, and it is on our longterm plan, to elevate and transform the University ultimately into a virtual Islamic University, wherein all knowledge 'Islamic' and Modern (theological and non-theological) will be thoroughly correlated and harmoniously combined and blended to get rid of the prevailing dichotomy in Muslim Education. We hope, InshaAllah, that the proposed Islamic University shall, one day, serve as a centre of excellence where a true and dynamic Islamic personality will be developed to meet the challenge of the fast developing modern age - such that every scientist, philosopher, engineer, medical doctor, administrator etc., who emerges from the University as a true savant and servant of Islam, will be well versed in his field and deeply grounded to act as a devoted Islamic missionary.
With all faith in Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, we submit to Him all our hopes and aspirations and beseech His Help and Grace. It is a fact, that, when we first stepped into this direction, it was nothing else than the unflinching reliance on Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, that motivated us to make the start from scratch. It is through His unbounded Grace that we now, have been accorded co-operation and incentive to work, from our scholars, philanthropists, men of influence and from sincere workers, much beyond our expectations.
We are confident, that in future also, He alone will provide us the essential requisites of our grand project and He alone will lead us in the service of the great cause for which Aleemiyah Islamic Missionary University has been founded.
Allah (Subhanahu) is our Helper and we (ultimately) rely upon Him.
